Our roving reporter, Aoife Barry sent us the following report:
On Friday 21st September, Our Lady’s College Greenhills celebrated the opening of our six new classrooms. A mass was held in the school attended by pupils, staff, invited guests, previous staff members and other members of our wider school community.  The theme of the mass was ‘New Beginnings’, which was portrayed through the art, music and readings during the mass. The vibrant, uplifting atmosphere at the ceremony displayed the pride and honour we have in our school. In the afternoon, the ribbon to the new building was cut by our past principal Padraig O’Broin, in recognition for all his work and dedication in obtaining the classrooms for the school. The day was a huge celebration of all the talents and capabilities many of our students have and a big thanks is owed to everyone who helped make the day a very special one!

The school that never rests!!!! Recent Belfast awards!!!!!!

Miss O'Regan guided her science students to more success recently in Belfast:
On  Tuesday 19th June, three projects from Our Lady’s College, Greenhills competed in the Sentinus Young Innovators competition in Belfast.  This event incorporates project work produced by students from ages 8 to 19+ and are judged for ages 11 to 19+ in the categories Northern Ireland Young Scientists and Young Engineers for Britain competitions.
Students from Our Lady’s College were competing in the Northern Ireland Young Scientist Exhibition and achieved some awards in recognition for all their efforts.  All students had previously entered their projects in the RDS in January 2012, at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition, where they also won awards.  They then completed further work and research for their Belfast entry and at the awards ceremony all were presented with Category, Special or Grand awards.

Niamh Cunningham was awarded runner-up in the Junior 11-14 age category. Her project investigated new number sequences from the Fibonacci Numbers.  Niamh was also awarded the Queens University Award for Mathematics in recognition of excellence in Mathematics, for which she received a trophy and a cash prize.

Aisling Molloy, with her project on “Investigating the effects of exercise on mental performance.” was awarded winner of the Intermediate Category (ages15-16) and also received a trophy and cheque.

Aoibh Collier and Caroline O’Connor were in the Intermediate Category (ages15-16) and were awarded one of the Grand Awards- that of Northern Ireland Young Scientist Overall Winner 2012. They presented their project “An investigation into which type of waste bag breaks down fastest.” To more than 14 judges throughout the day  from Queen’s University, Belfast, University of Ulster and Northern Ireland Environmental Agencies. This prestigious award was won previously by Greenhills past-pupil, Eliza Matthews, albeit when the event was much smaller.

Many congratulations to all the students on their fine work and to the commitment, dedication and hard-work of their teacher, Miss Frances O’Regan.

Scotch Hall Violins!!!

The students of the Music Dept caught the citizens of Drogheda unawares recently....as the ordinary townspeople were going about their business in Scotch Hall an unexpected treat awaited them in the form of a 'flashmob' of Greenhills Music Students.....

.."Music just appeared...it was lovely to listen to ... and then was gone again in no time....'twas great!"
Was how one bemused shopkeeper reacted.
